Your Journey with Sama : A Quick Guide
Curious about what it's like to partner with Sama Fertility for your IVF cycle?
Scheduling Your Consult
The first step is to schedule your phone consultation. You can call us at 609-200-0227 or use our SelfStart option online. If you leave a message or use SelfStart, please allow up to 4 days for a response from our team. Once your consultation is scheduled, you just need to wait for the appointment date. Our team will be sending you a Health History form to ensure that we have all the necessary information to provide you with the best possible care.
Getting Started Zoom Call
During the "Intro to Sama" Zoom call, we will discuss your timeline and answer any questions you might have. If you have prior medical records (e.g., blood work, ultrasounds, HSG, semen analysis), please forward them to our office. Schedule your consultation as soon as possible, as appointments can fill up quickly. Write down all your questions so you don’t forget to ask them during your consultation.
Doctor Consultation
This Zoom consultation is your opportunity to ask all the medical questions you’ve prepared. If you haven’t completed prior pretesting, it will be ordered during this call. After the consultation, you’ll have a finance call to discuss the recommended treatment and its cost.
Treatment Planning Call with Doctor
Once your pretesting and records have been reviewed, you will have a follow-up call with a doctor to outline your treatment steps based on your diagnosis.
Monitoring
Monitoring involves regular appointments to check your blood hormone levels and the development of your follicles and uterine lining.
Our Anywhere Monitoring program makes it extremely convenient for you to undergo the ultrasound appointments either locally or within the convenience of your own home (available in limited geos). Monitoring usually occurs every few days until your trigger shot.
Booking Flights, Hotels & Travel
Do not book your flights until you have a date for your egg retrieval, usually determined halfway through your stimulation.
Our team will let you know when it is a good time to book the flight and even help you with making some travel recommendations. At Sama you only need to travel to the clinic one day before the procedure.
Your Retrieval or Transfer
Egg Retrieval: This will occur in New York, NY or Manhattan Beach, CA. We require our patients to arrive the day before the retrieval. You must fast from midnight before the procedure. The retrieval takes about 10-15 minutes under conscious sedation. We require having a loved one accompanying you on the day of the procedure. In case you are unable to have someone join you, we would be able to arrange a medical chaperone with a service to discharge you from the Sama clinic and take you to your hotel. Many of our patients are able to travel back home the same day in the evening as our follow-ups are conducted virtually. Majority of our patients are able to resume normal activities the following day and travel the day after.
After your retrieval, please avoid any vaginal penetration for 10 days. Avoid intense exercise and focus on light activities like yoga and walking. Avoid intense exercise and focus on light activities like yoga and walking. The embryos will develop for about 5-7 days, after which we send the biopsied embryo samples for testing. Depending on the test, the turn-around-time is about 14-21 days. We will reach out with an update as soon as we get the report. Our doctors will call you to review the results and also discuss next steps.
Embryo Transfer: Like the retrieval, arrive the day before. The transfer is a simple procedure without anesthesia or recovery time needed. You can travel the day same day or choose to stay the evening locally.
After your transfer, you will wait about 10 days for your first pregnancy test. Avoid intense exercise and focus on light activities like yoga and walking.
Discharge from Sama Fertility
At 8-9 weeks of pregnancy, you will be officially discharged from Sama Fertility and continue your care with your OB/GYN. This marks your release from our care as you transition to your regular pregnancy care.
We are here to support you every step of the way. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
